Suicide and self-harm continue to be major problems in the United Kingdom and across the world. 

Recent data shows that suicide rates in England and Wales have increased and that in 2019 the figure for men was at its highest in two decades, standing at 16.9 deaths per 100,000. Meanwhile, the rate among young women (aged 10-24) is the highest recorded since 1981

Wellbeing is an important part of our portfolio of qualifications here at TQUK, and a number of our qualifications are focused around mental health. These include the TQUK Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness (RQF), the TQUK Level 2 Award in Emergency Response for Mental Health in the Workplace (RQF) and the TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working in Mental Health. 

One of newest qualifications is another addition to this list. The TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Self-Harm and Suicide Awareness and Prevention (RQF) is aimed at anyone over the age of 16 and designed to help educate individuals in how to spot signs of self-harm and suicide early in order to help prevent further harm and advise those in need to seek help.

The qualification is well suited to people in a range of roles, including HR professionals, safeguarding leads, community leaders, prison officers, teachers, school support staff, play workers and counsellors. 

The total qualification time is 120 hours and topics covered include: 

  • Introduction to suicide and self-harm awareness
  • Recognising signs of suicide and self-harm
  • Principles of suicide and self-harm prevention
  • Support for individuals when dealing with grief and suicide

The qualification has been allocated AEB funding and resources will be available through our partners at The Skills Network
