Did you know that 1.46 million people were referred to counselling sessions in 2021?

Counselling is a deeply rewarding career where you can positively impact the lives of others. That’s why March’s Qualification of the Month is TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (RQF) 601/7815/2.

This qualification aims to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding while introducing them to skills required for counselling that will prepare them for further learning or training.

Here at Training Qualifications UK, we understand that life is not always easy. That’s where counselling can help. It is a very effective way of helping individuals sort through life’s challenging moments and allows people to express their thoughts and feelings to a trained professional without any judgement.

Research shows that one in eight adults received counselling in 2022. Seeking a qualified counsellor’s help can support you in exploring thoughts and emotions while making sense of why you are thinking and feeling a certain way.

Emma Heatherington, Lead Qualification Developer at Training Qualifications UK said: Whether you wish to start a journey towards being a fully qualified counsellor, embed counselling skills into an existing role to support others or for personal development, the TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills can act as that first step.

The qualification will provide a sound foundation of knowledge and understanding by investigating counselling theories, personal development, counselling skills, and diversity and ethics in counselling.”

While completing the TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (RQF) 601/7815/2, the learner will work through a variety of units such as, how an ethical framework relates to the use of counselling skills, know what discrimination means, and understand the anti-discriminatory practice.

“Although this qualification will not qualify you to be a counsellor, it can allow progression into higher level studies or complement other learning. The knowledge and understanding gained can also be embedded into a range of different roles in various sectors to assist you in supporting others. The addition of counselling skills can be of particular benefit for those working in helping roles such as health care worker, teaching assistant, mental health first aider, or substance misuse recovery worker.” Said, Emma.

Counselling can also help you learn new skills for building effective, better relationships and develop solutions to issues that have previously overwhelmed or negatively affected you. It can also promote greater self-esteem and assertiveness, decrease anxiety and depression, and allow you to set boundaries for yourself and others.
