European Social Fund

Helping learners develop new skills and find a job they love with qualifications backed by the European Social Fund (ESF).

What is the European Social Fund?

The European Social Fund aims to promote social inclusion, mobility and cohesion within member states of the European Union. It does this by offering funding for qualifications that help learners develop skills and get on the job ladder.

There are three distinct funding streams within the European Social Fund: Skills Support for the Workforce (SWW), Skills Support for the Unemployed (SSU), and Skills Support for the Redundant (SSR).

Skills Support for the Workforce funding is focused on upskilling those already in work so they can further progress their career.

Skills Support for the Unemployed funding is focused on providing those who are out of work with the skills they need to land a job.

Skills Support for the Redundant funding is focused on supporting those who are facing redundancy or who have already been made redundant.

As part of its withdrawal from the European Union, the UK is in a transition period that began on 31st January 2020 and will continue until the end of 2020. During this time, the UK and EU will negotiate the terms of the UK’s withdrawal, and from these negotiations, the future availability of the ESF in the UK will become clear.

Which qualifications are available with ESF funding?

All of our qualifications are recognised by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation, England (Ofqual), the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills, and the Welsh Government.

Every one of our qualifications comes complete with a detailed specification that supports the delivery and assessment of the qualification. And we always develop them with flexibility in mind, which means that for many of our qualifications, a TQUK Recognised Centre will be able to choose assessment methods that they feel best suit their learner’s needs.

To see which of our qualifications have ESF attached funding, use our Qualifications Search Engine and filter the search engine under ‘Funding’ to ‘ESF’.
